Holiday Magic by Fern Michaels
Rating: 2.5 out 5 stars
Stephanie Marshall works as a manager in a ski shop. Eddie O'Brien is her supervisor and they both went out a few dates. After the third date, he suddenly stopped calling. As the Christmas draws near, maybe the season will bring them back together.
Biggest complaint: the hero. For someone who is supposed to be 39, Eddie acted immature and vindictive towards the heroine because he was afraid to love anyone. For example, he will randomly tell the heroine "Don't plan a future with me" for no reason at all and then lashed out at the heroine because he said it. Other than that, I like and respected the heroine. Leaving an abusive relationship, she became strong and raised some really endearing daughters. The other characters were equally as cool and supportive. Despite being 90+ pages, the plot was pretty decent. It was the crappy hero that brought the entire story down. That's why I couldn't give it a complete 3 stars.
A Very Merry Christmas by Cathy Lamb
Rating: 3 out 5 stars
Meredith could only count on herself. When local rancher Logan came to her "rescue" at the bar, she knew she was in trouble of falling in love. Despite the attraction, a secret from her past prevented her from moving forward with their relationship.
The style of writing reminds me a little of Lass Small and Diana Palmer in their later writings. Schizophrenic or something like that. The first chapter starts this story off right. I loved Meredith. When some guy was trying to pick her up and refused to back down, she punched him out. And everyone in the bar supported her. I thought it was hilarious. Then walks in our hero, Logan. Meredith lost her backbone and became a crying mess half the time and other half, trying to fight her anger of the injustice of her life. On the other hand, I like Logan. He wasn't willing to give up too easily but was not overbearing about it. I also like the secret history he had with Meredith.
The writing and dialogue was a little erratic and sometime, pointless. So, if you like Diana Palmer's recent books, then you will like this one. This was a decent read. Could've been better though.
A Very Maui Christmas
Rating: 2.5 out 5 stars
Tara hated her family Christmas get togethers. But this year was different. After getting accidentally bitten by a reindeer, Tara got free vacation in Maui. What she didn't expect that her family would follow her there!
Another crazy story. Things go from one outrageous thing to another. Some of the dialogue and plots were funny but it does not outweigh the senselessness of the story.
A Cedar Key Christmas
Rating: 3.5 out 5 stars
Josie and her young daughter, along with their neighbors, were helping an elderly neighbor from being kicked out of his house by his own nephew. Can the Christmas season and Josie make him realize the love of family and friends before it becomes too late.
The best one out of the lot. If this story was the normal length of 180 pages, this book would've been a 4 or even 5 stars. As is, it stays at 3.5 stars. Despite the page limitations, the plot was well thought out. The plot had great potential. The characters were amazing and inspirational. I didn't like the fact that the hero did not get any show time. You don't even get to see when he reformed and learned his mistake. So, there wasn't time for the heroine to truly fall in love and talk with the hero.
All in all, please skip this. Not even if it was for a $1.
