As part as his probation for being arrested for drunk-driving, Mike must attend AA meetings. When his probation officer couldn't take him one day, his probation officer's sister, Patricia Norbert, decided to fill in. As they became more intertwined in each other lives, Patricia realized that being supportive was not the only reason she was helping Mike.

This was a true inspirational romance. Gail Sattler did a wonderful job capturing the hard emotions and cold realities of recovering from alcoholism. Overcoming alcoholism, or any addiction, takes a lot of effort and a good support system, and the author went into great detail of the AA program. Patricia was a commendable heroine since she was Mike's only true support. Despite being only 5 feet, Patricia was no pushover and never allowed others' disapproval to hinder her in helping Mike. She truly embodied her Christian faith and helped guide him to overcoming the bad luck that was dogging his steps. Patricia was patient but did not pull any punches when she needed to be tough, like pouring out of hundred dollars worth of alcohol down the drain. Mike was an even greater inspiration. Being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Mike felt entitled and spoiled until the fact he might go to jail, changed his perspective on life. There were temptations thrown at him repeatedly but with determination and faith, he overcame them all. His strength was awe-inspiring. The side characters helped moved the plot along without obstructing Patricia and Mike's romance. In my opinion, their romance was not the flowers-and-candy-and-passion kind. The romance was low key and became forged when two people go through hard times and come out stronger together. From the bottom of my heart, Patricia and Mike was an admirable couple.

If you or someone you know is battling addiction of any kind, this novel might bring you a ray of hope. If you are looking for an inspirational story, then this foots the bill. Looking for a flowery romance themed novel, this might not be your cup of tea. Overall, strong writing, well-expressed feelings, and an inspiring, good plot, this is a well-rounded Christian romance novel. I did not give the book 5 stars because I would not read this again. But it is definitely a keeper.
