Ezra Jagger was tired of all the blind dates. Then he happened upon an ad in the newspaper and his interest was peaked. Pawnee Walker needed help into sneaking into a terrorist-controlled area and Ezra was her ticket there. Ezra agreed to get marry but then she didn't need him anymore. However, Ezra needed her for his chance for a better position at his company. They were stuck together whether Pawnee liked it or not.
I just didn't get this book. First, the beginning was plain ridiculous and improbable by far. The summary on the back of the book didn't truly cover the whole, foolish plot. Who would get it into their heads to marry a stranger in order to sneak into a country at war to rescue one's sister from terrorists? This plot required a suspension of disbelief that I couldn't care for. Secondly, Pawnee turned out be an awful person. It was nice that Pawnee was very devoted to her family and she would do anything for them. However, that was only 5% of the story. The fact of the matter was, she used Ezra for own purposes and when he was no longer needed, she wanted to break her promises. What happened to her word that she would stay by him until it was an appropriate time to divorce? After the day her sister was rescued (only one day of marriage), she was ready to call it quits. I'm glad Ezra called her out on it, but she still didn't understand what was wrong. It was "me, me, me" till the very end. Obviously she had no scruples and sincerely, I wanted her to suffer but not at Ezra's expense though. Ezra was an admirable hero who was a sweetheart and seems very devoted to his love ones. How Ezra fell in love with her just doesn't compute. He knew what type of person Pawnee was and yet, he was glad he coerced her into remaining his wife. And then, they play the game of misinterpreting each other hand gestures and facial expressions for the remaining story. Ugh! Why couldn't they just talk instead of guessing what the other was feeling? He appeared more in lust than love. There was no real romance. It was like one day, "POOF", I want to jump in bed with you. Uber weak plot. The characters fell flat. An absolute struggle just to get to a lackluster ending.
Don't buy this. Please don't. You will banging your head against the wall by the foolish plot and awful heroine. The plot had no structure, no romance and so-so writing made this book a total miss.
