Megan Kearney's Beauty & the Beast: Act One Review

Title: Beauty and the Beast: Act One
Author: Megan Kearney
Publisher: The Quietly
ISBN: 9780993721205
More Information: http://www.batb.thecomicseries.com/
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I’m a Beauty and the Beast fiend and always on the lookout for anything to feed my addiction.  After seeing a blurb on Surlalune’s blog for this GN, I quickly made my purchase and I was not disappointed.  In Act 1, we were introduced to Beauty, her family and the Beast.  Since this was the first volume, there wasn’t much to the plot just yet than the usual building up the background story.  A nice change was that her family was actually nice and that the townspeople didn’t always liked Beauty.  What's cool is that the Beast’s origins might be slightly different from the usual.  The drawings are well done and clean.  The panels are easy to follow.  The artwork is more like an American comic than a manga.  And for some odd reason, the pages are slightly tinted yellow.

Overall, I like it.  The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I wouldn’t be reading this over and over again.  But it is definitely worth buying for my BatB collection and supporting the artist.  I can’t wait for Act 2 to come out.
