Natalie and Nick were two people, who don’t
know each other, but have the same problems in their lives – dissatisfaction
with their jobs and love lives. But when
they made a wish at a magical fountain, they began to dream of one another. Legend has it that that you will dream of
your true love for one week. If you do not
find each other by the final day, you will never meet. But when they both doubt that the other
exist, will they find happiness in time?
My interest was piqued by the idea of finding your true love
in dreams and wishes. Plot-wise - it was what I expected. They would just miss each other in their waking lives; decided that they needed to be more realistic and forget each other; then finally decided at the very last minute that they have to find each other; and then miss each other again until they finally do meet. However, don't let me scare you off. There is a uniqueness about it that keeps your attention glued to the screen.
The casting was spot on and the acting was not too campy. Actually, the side characters might have more “presence” than the main characters since they seem to exaggerate their characters’ foibles. For example, the ex-girlfriend. She was a gold-digger. And most opportunities, there was no mistake she was a witch. In essence, it made Nick and Natalie a little dull in comparison. Now, Nick, played by Mike Vogel, I liked but didn’t fall in love with. Taking back his cheating ex-girlfriend, Nick dropped a few points in my regard. It felt like an unnecessary move that created needless conflict. It only made me question his integrity. Natalie, played by Katharine McPhee, I liked. I get her because I feel like I could be her. She was really sweet and you can’t help but want her to succeed. This is definitely a clean movie. There are a couple of kissing scenes, but they lacked heat.

Beautifully shot, expertly cast, and an interesting romantic story line made "In my Dreams” a movie worth watching. My two little complaints would be that I wish there was more Nick and Nat scenes and that the ending was expounded a bit more. Oh well~ The main reason I gave the movie a 4 stars was because I wouldn't watch it over and over. The only extra is behind the scenes.
