I haven't enjoyed Harlequin Medical Romance books lately. Most of the books I have picked up were mostly Harlequin Presents-type books: where the hero and heroine were constantly thinking about being sexually attracted to each other throughout the book and getting into each other beds ASAP and miraculously falling in love in the end with a little plot thrown in. I'm no prude but I'm kind of sick of it. And if you are like me in that regard, you will find this book a welcome change.

Angela wanted to join the Mountain Rescue, but Dr. Mark Anderson was standing in her way. Mark didn't need a novice like her on his team but something about Angela bothers him. And since he wasn't planning on staying in White Elk, he wasn't planning on anything long term. But as they work together on a project, they find themselves helplessly drawn to each other.

Two words to describe this story: refreshing and fun. The dialogue in this story is absolutely witty and delightful. I smiled or laughed a couple of times. The snappy comebacks and arguments doled out by the heroine and hero was their way of subtle flirtation and it became their way to express their attraction while still denying its existence. They find arguing with each other simulating and generally begin to like each others' intelligence and tenacity. My favorite part of this book was when Mark confronted Angela after she was kept her distance for a week. He complained, "We haven't argued lately, something must be wrong." Cute. And the best part, it's not annoying banter or one-liners. So, I always look forward to their clashes. As for the hero and heroine themselves, I honestly liked and respected them, faults and all. I totally fell in love with Mark. He was a loner due to past experiences but he was still thoughtful, kind and willing to go out of his way to help even when he denied it to himself. He was a walking contradiction until the end, when he realized what he really wanted was under his nose. Angela was a doormat to her ex for 8 years and now wanted to make something of herself for her daughter's sake. She charms you and can't help root for her to succeed. When she wanted something, she was like a dog with a bone without being too annoying. The plot is decent and comparable to others. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. The writing is awesome but the plot didn't really pop for me. So, I probably wouldn't pick this book up again for a while. But I'm definitely adding it to my collection. Side note: it's a clean romance.

If you are on the fence about getting this book, get it. But should you go out and get it right this minute, not really. Looking for passion? Not for you. If you have the time, money or need a filler book, I would definitely recommend it.
