My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Just like her romance novels, Alison Larkin’s dream is to marry a lord. When the opportunity arises for her to come out in society, Allison knew this was her chance. Face with multiple suitors, the only person that really peak her interest was Mr. Philip Trevelyan. But he wasn’t titled. What was a girl suppose to do?
I found Allison Larkin quite charming and a little naïve. Even though her goal was to marry a lord, she wasn’t so mercenary that you would hate her. She valued her family and friends over her lords and tries her best for them. She can take criticism and advice without getting upset. You can’t help but like her for her witty attitude. I liked Philip Trevelyan. He was uppity at first, but after getting to know Alison and her family, his thinking slowly changed. Whenever the opportunity arose, he was always there to help the Larkin family, not understanding why he was doing it. There wasn't much obvious romance between the two, but it was a more of a slow realization that they loved each other in the end. There were a lot of side characters and I love their individual quirks. It can be a bit of distraction since there was a lot of characters for a 200+ page book, but they helped push the story along and shape the main characters. On a side note, this is a clean romance.
This was an extremely easy book to get through. Carola Dunn kept the dialogue and plot simple and to the point. The side characters were entertaining and you have to like Alison and Philip. Overall, I enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast read, with a sweet romance, a bit of humor and without the drama. If you like regency romances, this is accurate enough in the details that it shouldn’t distract you. If you are looking for a hot read, skip it.
