The Perfect Bride for Mr. Darcy Review

On a side note, I'm actually (force to) draw again.  XD  It's a birthday gift for a co-worker.  She actually requested a drawing  from me to hang on her wall awhile ago.  Since I hate requests for drawings, I decline.  I know, I'm mean.  But I'm so freaking lazy.  *sigh*  Now, I'm guilty and let me tell you, after not drawing on PS for over 2+ years, it's not that easy.  LOL.  I'm almost done and it's very simple.  I'll post an image when I finish.

Title: The Perfect Bride for Mr. Darcy
Author: Mary Lydon Simonsen
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Website: http://www.sourcebooks.com
My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Is this the most original Pride & Prejudice variation I've read?  Not particularly.  Creative?  I would have to give you that.  The first chapter quickly summarized the novel up until the fateful proposal scene.  This was where the book slightly veered off from the original plot.  Instead of Mr. Darcy leaving immediately from Rosings Park, Mr. Darcy told his cousin, Anne de Bourgh, of Lizzie's rejection.  And so imagine, instead of fate, it was Anne pulling the strings to get these two to meet again at Pemberley.

What I love about this novel was the presence of so many strong women.  These girls were definitely modern and relateable.  For example, Jane didn't take Bingley back right away.  She made him suffer to show him how much he had hurt her.  Georgiana and Wickham's elopement wasn't what we thought all along.  Anne wasn't as sickly as everyone believed and have a bright mind of her own.  However, on the other side of the spectrum, our main couple got short shrifted.  Darcy was pretty much the same except he seem like a secondary hero in comparison to Bingley's older brother.  And Lizzie lost her spunk.  So, as you can tell, everyone had their own voices and the story was not just from Lizzie's point-of-view.  Disappointingly, with the fact that everyone had their own side stories, Darcy and Lizzie's relationship was more of a side plot than the main story.  Then the ending ended on an abrupt note.  Another disappointment.

The writing was well done.   Each chapter was pretty short, making reading a breeze.  Since the plot was similar to the original novel with a few tweaks, you'll probably like it.  The only reason I gave this 4 stars was because I wouldn't read this again.  The story ultimately focus too much on Anne and the other characters and not enough on Lizzie and Darcy.  Plus, the conclusion was blah.  Depending if you are fan of P&P variations, go for it.  It was a decent overall read with strong characters and stayed close to the original.  However, if you are not and never read P&P, pass this one over.  It will not be worth your time.
