Buck Summerhayes worked at a dude ranch that he and his fellow Marines dreamed up together after being hurt in the war. They also created a program to welcome a family of a fallen soldier to show their appreciation of their sacrifice. It was Buck's turn to welcome the new family, Alexis Wilson and her granddaughter. Alexis welcomed the change of scenery and was astounded by how much the ranch and Buck worked their magic to bring laughter and love back into their lives. But things weren't going to be so simple. With the help of her granddaughter, maybe they can build a future together.
What a refreshing story. I don't know. There was something about this story that just works for me. Okay. The plot wasn't exactly a riveting one. It had a couple of minor complications that weren't really necessary. Just something to create friction in an otherwise pretty mellow story. But what made this book was the awesome cast of characters and funny dialogues. The writing was easy to follow and you will breeze through the book. The hero, Buck, was absolutely swoonworthy. Oh my . . . If there were more men like him. He was a sweetheart with a strong honorable heart. Alexis was decent. I liked her sense of honor but I never really develop an affinity with her. Her character development was a little too shallow to appreciate. And, yes, Alexis was slightly older than Buck. I thought that aspect was kind of charming. However, the main couple were not the main draw here. The children were and they really added personality to the book. The ending was fabulous. I actually sighed as I turned the last page.
This is the second book of "Daddy Dude Ranch" series. Would I read the next one? It depends on the plot line. Now this story is not for everyone. If you are looking for a simple, clean, sweet, no thinking romance, this is the book for you. Everyone else? Skip this one by. You won't be satisfy with this fluff piece. Also, if you don't like children in your romances, the children do play major roles to keep the story moving. The reason I gave this 4 stars was because even though I enjoyed the first read, I wouldn't read this book again.
