Pride & Precipice Review

Title: Pride and Precipice
Author: Leila M. Silver
Publisher: Silver Summer Publishing
ISBN: 9781494716165
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

This was a rare gem for me since it filled a niche that I haven't found much of - a clean, contemporary P&P variation, where Elizabeth and Darcy are adults.  Most of the ones that I like have them in high school or in college, so this was a major treat.

In this modern adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, Darcy and Bingley owned a line of expensive hotel chains and the Bennet family owned a contracting firm.  Bingley recently bought property within the Longbourn area and would love Jane and Lizzie to restore their newest hotel.  What Lizzie did not expect was the sudden clash with Bingley's friend, Fitzwilliam Darcy.  Can they both give up their pride to achieve the ultimate prize of love?

LOVE IT!  There were a couple of differences that helped streamlined the plot.  These minor changes will be appreciated for not dragging the story.  For example, instead of Elizabeth and Darcy going their separate ways after his declaration of love, Darcy went to her right away and got everything off his chest.  So their misunderstanding did not last as long as the original plot.  It worked out so much better.  The story was straightforward without any extra wordiness to drag the reader down.  All the characters were perfectly modernized.  What about Lydia and Wickham?  They were mere blips in the scheme of things and merely used as quick ways for the Darcy to prove his intentions to Lizzie.  I wished there was more to the ending though.  It ended a bit abruptly.  I mean it was a cute.  But I think another chapter would've been perfect-o here.  Overall, there was nice balance of drama, humor and romance.  I sincerely in like here.

If you love a good, clean, contemporary romance, get it.  You don't even have to be a fan of Pride & Prejudice to like this read.  And fellow fans, I think you are going to like this one.  There is enough similarities that it doesn't stray too far from the original plot and characterization.  But if you are looking for something hot, this is not it.  The only reason I deducted just a half star was because I wouldn't re-read over and over again, but there was enough charm to keep this novel on my shelf.
