Unlocking the Spell Review

Title: Unlocking the Spell
Author: E. D. Baker
Series: A Tale of the Wide-Awake Princess #2
Publisher: Bloomsbury
ISBN: 97816169631946
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

If you thought “The Wide-Awake Princess” was good, then this story will be amazing!  Now that Princess Annie has save her kingdom from the sleeping curse, she can finally relax and spend time with her prince.  Nope.  There was still one unsolved issue from the first book.  Prince Beldegard, her sister’s true love, was still a bear and Annie was the only person capable to break his curse.

It’s rare for me to say but it was perfect.  Everything just work.  The characters were well-defined in their roles.  All the characters were charming, except for one I just couldn’t relate to.  I loved Annie and Liam.  They were so down-to-earth, not too lovey-dovey and their scenes together were just my favorites.  Beldegard was hilarious.  The only person I would wish less of was Gwendolyn.  She was pretty insignificant in the scheme of things.  The plot moved at a fast pace and kept the action going, by constantly throwing in new fairy tale characters every other chapter.  The intertwining of tales were done seamlessly and gave a whole new twist to their original stories as well.  There was plenty of humor, a little romance, decent amount of action and it was just plain fun.  I couldn’t wait to move on to the next chapter.

Would I recommend?  OF COURSE!  Get this book now.  Fan of fairy tales or not, this is a perfect read.  You don’t necessarily need to read the first book but I would suggest reading it later just to get the background story.
