Title: Madd Capp Checkers - Cupcake Lovers Edition
Publisher: Madd Capp
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Since checkers should be known to the general populace, I
won’t go into the basics. If you are
looking at this game, you already like or love the game and want to know
whether to buy this one. Let’s get to
it.
Quality: The board is a good sturdy cardboard. Instead of disks, you get cupcakes! What a cute idea and having a candle for
‘king me’ is awesome. The cupcakes are
made of plastic and stands at 1.5” tall and wide. Despite the cover of the box, the cupcakes
have silver liners with pink and brown frostings. No cutie sprinkles. The candles are made of foam board. The setup and clean up, in my opinion, does
take a little more time. The cupcake
pieces are a bit bulkier and they are stored in a plastic mold that holds them
in place. This is why it might take
time. But I do like it since it keeps
everything organize. I do have one thing
to say would be about the popper. After
using it for 3 games, the dice started putting dints in the popper. It is a minor thing but worth
mentioning.
Mechanics with the twist: The rules are the same. If you want, you can play the game normally. Or you can have a stimulating time with the
twist. The twist is when you push the
popper that house 3 dice before your turn.
Each dice’s sides have pink and brown candles. When you pop, whatever the side is faced up
are the ones you are allow to move during your turn. (Example: 2 pink candles + 1 brown candle = 2
pink cupcakes and 1 brown cupcake moves.)
The twist definitely made the game faster or longer, depending on skill
level. My games were on the faster
side. I’m not good with strategy games
and this addition does make you think of where to move the pieces to your
advantage.
I highly recommend this version of checkers. I don’t love the game, but strongly liked it. I won’t be playing it over and over
again. That is why I gave it 4 stars. Everyone I played with liked it as well. Cute design and a new, interesting challenge
made this checkers version a plus!
Note: I received this ARC from the Amazon Vine program for an honest review.
