Jaded by the demise of her marriage, Sara Flynn struggled from dollar to dollar to take care of her daughter, while promising herself to never date again. Learning the lesson the hard way, Sara did not need a knight in shining armor. E.J. Sommers didn't do families, especially children. But there was something about Sara that attracted him. As they worked together on the upcoming charity ball, they were going to be bumping into each other and maybe, E.J. can get Sara over her distrust of men. But there was a catch - E.J. was hiding who he really was.
This was a sweetheart of a story. If you are prepared not to expect too much drama or anything to really happen, this story can be your cup of your tea. Personally, I find a predictable plot can be comforting when you know what to expect. There were a couple of things that was a little off for me. Despite the title, cute, little Hayley wasn't as predominant as I have have expected. Considering the only reason Sara was reluctant to form a relationship with any man was for her daughter's sake, E.J. rarely spent any significant time with Hayley. And he rarely spent any time with Sara either. I'm not entirely sure what was Sara's attraction. All the way up to the end, all she did was play hard to get throughout the book. So, there was very little romance if I think about it now. And the only other thing that ruined the flow of the story was the rushed ending. The climax was building to a crescendo and then, BAM! Out of nowhere, the "I love you"s were said and like a deflating balloon, that was it. So, some of the issues weren't really resolve and left to hang. It was a cute, decent ending, but the story itself could've been paced better.
Would I recommend? This is not a story to buy right away. Then why did I give 4 stars? This is a predictable story with endearing characters and simple writing. I got what I expected and liked it. If you are bored and ran out of books, then go for it. However, if you are expecting hot and heavy with lots of drama, pass this one by. All in all, this book can wait.
Note: This is a cleaner version of "Winning Sara's Heart". I cannot compare how different it is from the original story.
