Thrice Upon a Marigold Review

Title: Thrice Upon a Marigold
Author: Jean Ferris
Publisher: Harcourt
ISBN: 9780547738468

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Christian and Marigold finally have their happily-ever-after when their precious baby, Poppy, was born.  The kingdom was celebrating except for Phoebe and Sebastian, who were alienated by their evil fathers' actions.  When Princess Poppy was kidnapped by their fathers as revenge, Phoebe and Sebastian were going to join forces to finally rid themselves of their horrible pasts, save the princess and maybe fall in love in the process.

A decent conclusion to the Marigold series.  The series deviate by the fact that the story was more focused on the new characters, Phoebe and Sebastian.  Christian took the backseat and Marigold was rarely seen, which was fine since they had their happily ever after.  I found Sebastian quite charming.  Phoebe was interesting in the fact that she was a bookworm.  I love their scenes.  But my main gripe was the fact that there was too much focus on the bad guys, since 50% was from their point-of-view.  It added nothing to the plot and I had to resist the urge to just flip pages.  And the plot was already lacking as is.  There was a little bit of romance but it was also lackluster.  The final book wrapped up all loose ends nicely.  However, is it the ideal ending that readers were expecting?  Probably not.

Even for a fairy tale freak like me, I would have probably passed this book over if I wasn't interested to see how this series concluded.  The writing was well done despite the struggling plot line.  The character development was stunted but you do get a good sense of everyone's personalities.  Would I recommend?  It depends.  If you already stuck with the series this far, go for it.  Fairy tale fanatic?  Borrow it and see for yourself.  Everyone else?  I suggest passing this one over.

Note: I received this ARC from the Amazon Vine program for an honest review.
