Love 'n' Marriage
5 out of 5 starsJonas Lockwood was insufferable to work for. Even it was just for one day. Stephanie Coulter could not understand what was so great about the company's president. He was a tyrant, a dictator and a grouch. But Stephanie's co-workers deemed Jonas the perfect hero from a romance novel. And guess who they deemed the perfect heroine? Well, Stephanie was going to prove them wrong. Or was she going to fall into their well-laid plans?
How did I miss this gem? Thank you for reprints. This story just proves what a creative writer Macomber really is. In a way, Love 'n' Marriage could be seen as a nice parody of the typical romance novel. The plot was ingenious, quirky and poked gentle fun at obsessive romance fans (meaning me). Who doesn't go around daydreaming all the possible scenarios of meeting your own hero or applying it to your friend's love life? Our heroine has an absolutely solid personality. There are no hidden agendas or artifices. She was sincere, spunky and you can't help but root for her success. And Jonas Lockwood epitomized the ultimate alpha male. He was deep, dark, and brooding. However, when it came to love, he fell hard and you can't help but fall in love with him. Their romance developed slowly and believably. The plot was cliche, which made it perfect because, it was suppose to be cliche. The only major drama was at the end, which luckily wasn't dragged out, had you at the edge of your seat. And finally, the ending was wrapped up sweetly.
Almost an Angel
4 out of 5 starsBethany Stone has been in love with her boss for three years, but he never noticed her as nothing more than another piece of office furniture. However, when Josh Norris's daughter suddenly came to live with him, he desperately needed Bethany's help. With this new development, maybe she can finally get Josh to notice her as someone more.
'Almost an Angel' had the same premise but lacked the gutsiness and impact compared to the first novel. Since the heroine was in love with her boss for so many years, she allowed him to walk all over her. I didn't like that fact and was frustrated by her lack of confidence in herself. Like her only friend in the book, I would definitely shake her. (Then again, if I was in Bethany's shoes, I would probably be the same way.) However, Bethany gained some personal growth near the end, which greatly redeemed herself. In any case, whichever side you are on, both female characters were definitely relateable. The hero was harder to grasp since the perspective was from the Bethany's point-of-view. So, expect some misunderstandings. Josh's daughter was absolutely adorable and added much needed humor and lightness to the story. Plot was pretty laid-back. 70% was Bethany babysitting and 30% of spending time with Josh. Overall, I wouldn't read this story again but it was well written and worth a one time read.
Both casts of characters were fun, easygoing and likable. There was no verbiage in character development since the two couples already had a history. The plot mainly focused on the romance and building the relationships. Also, this was a well thought out reprint. Both stories complement each other perfectly and were equally enjoyable. If you have never read these two stories, get this book. If you have, the only minor difference is that the story has been modernized. Not worth rebuying if you own them. If you are looking for something filled with drama and hotness, pass this book by.
Note: These are clean romances.
