My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
I'm a huge fan of crossword puzzles since my college days. I would buy the Inquirer everyday and solve all the puzzles during my commute. So, it would be almost 10+ years since I became an avid fan. Nowadays, I don't have the time to purchase a newspaper and prefer to buy books of crossword puzzles. But somehow, I never really found ones that I like. Recently, as I was browsing through Barnes & Noble, I noticed this hip, little black book and after checking out the clues, I knew this was the book for me when I saw "Crab-like Pokemon" as a clue.
I'm nowhere near New York Times's level. I'm more USA Today speed but I do love a good challenge. The puzzle themes use a lot of pop culture references from mostly the 90's but do range from the 1970's to the 2000's. The clues are a mixed of famous quotes, song titles, characters and movies. If you are familiar with Harry Potter, Cartoons (especially Pokemon) and all types of music, this book is perfect for you. Check out the sample pages first as well to see if they are up to your speed. There are 144 puzzles that varies from 1 to 5 stars. So far, I've worked my way through to puzzle 50. It does get progressively harder and I don't always finish a puzzle. The paper quality is decent. Not top notch but better than a newspaper's or magazine's. The only con would be that the print and puzzles can be kind of small. So, if you have a hard time seeing small print, then this might be an issue. And the book is a little pricey but well worth the entertainment value. Overall, this has been the best crossword puzzle book I have found so far and if you are nerdy as am I, you're going to love it.
