Title: Chopped Salad Scissors
Publisher: OXO Good Grips
ISBN: 719812043197
My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Note: I received this ARC from the Amazon Vine program for an honest review.
If you are like me, I’m always on the lookout for short cuts
and the convenience of just dumping my vegetables into a bowl and attacking it with a pair
of salad scissors to mix everything together was something I couldn’t resist. After using the tool a few times, my excitement has dampen. There were three issues.
The first being is that no matter how I hold the scissors,
it’s always awkward. My mind
automatically treats these as scissors and assume there is another handle. So, it feels a little weird not to have another
looped handle. Because of this, I found
that I turn my arm at an awkward angle to chop.
Even with two hands, I just couldn't get a comfortable grip. My hand starts to get tired after a minute. The second issue is that the opening between shears is not wide and actually limits the vegetable size for cutting. Cherry
tomatoes are hard to get at and always end up being macerated or still
whole. And besides, you still have to cut
vegetables down to size, which defeats the purpose. Lastly, since I’m usually the only salad eater in the house, I use a small bowl. However, with a smaller portion, the contents tend to
escape. While making a bigger salad was definitely easier.
I’ll be honest, it’s okay.
It is sharp. The rounded tip of the shears does not scratch the dishes. Locking tab keeps the scissor secure. Very easy to clean. But I found it was just easier to chop my own vegetables to get a more uniform appearance. On the other hand, if you are a prolific salad eater, I wouldn't mind suggesting this to you. In the long run, I'm going to pass on this tool. It is a novel idea but it just didn't work out for me.
If you watch my video, thanks. I was chopping with one hand while holding the camera in the other. Sorry for the wobbly focus.
