Language of Love by Deborah Reber
3.5 out of 5 stars

To be honest, this is not the type of story that I normally read.  However, it was like watching a train wreck.  But in a good way.  You can't help but watch, or rather read, this tragedy unfold between the covers.

Janna Papp was in a fix.  One day in a Starbucks, she used an Eastern European accent jokingly and attracted the cutest boy she ever seen.  But the problem was, he thought she was a foreign exchange student from Hungary.  What was a girl to do but play along?  But how long could she pull this off?  And did Julian like the fake Janna more than the real one?

This story has a little of everything.  Drama, betrayal, romance, the prom . . . . The characters had a slight depth that made them more realistic and relateable.  It taught light lessons about love, friendship and peer pressure.  They could be your everyday teenagers out there, dealing with life.  The scenario may be a little farfetched.  But who knows?  The plot was well paced and the short chapters made reading a breeze.  The ending was perfectly done and everyone gets their happily-ever-after.

Cupidity by Caroline Goode
3.5 out of 5 stars

What a fun read.  Again, not the type of story I normally read.  When I was in high school, I was obsessed with mythology.  And I still enjoy it now but not to that extent.  And I like a good YA book.  Cupidity brings out the best of both worlds.

Laura wanted a boyfriend and on one stormy night, sent a wish to Jupiter for help.  What she didn't know that Jupiter and the rest of the Roman gods do exist.  Happy to be of use, Jupiter sent a disguised female Cupid to Ohio to find Laura a boyfriend.  What they didn't account for that Cupidity to accidentally get shot by one of her love arrows.  Now Laura had to find Venus and cure everyone of their love sickness.

I love all the drama and the chaos that ensued when Cupid turned Laura's high school into a warped romance Grand Central.  There wasn't a lot of romance even though a lot of people were accidentally put together and the revelation of who Laura liked could've been expounded on.  You knew but the development of the realization of her feelings needed a little more work for the 'aha' moment at the end.  The second half of the book was awesome and adventure packed.  Laura had to think on her feet and get everyone back to normal.  I have to admire her ability to role with the punches.  All the gods were cool.  But I don't think they would've aged that much.  They are gods after all.  Great cast of interesting characters.

These two stories were better than okay but I didn't like them that much.  Hence, the 3.5 stars.  However, please take my rating with a grain of salt.  As I preface each of my reviews, these are not the typical stories I read and even though I did enjoy them, I wouldn't read them again.  But other people might enjoy them.  These are fun reads with a nice balance of drama, romance, adventure and fun.  So, give it a shot.  I wouldn't pay full price.  For 2 stories that are about 200 pages long with large print, I suggest getting it cheaper.  There is no rush to get this book but if you need a filler book, this would not be a bad choice.  For me, once was good enough.
