Prince of Charming by Karen Fox

Title: Prince of Charming
Author: Karen Fox
Publisher: Jove - Penguin Putnam
ISBN: 0515129747
My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I purchased this book about 2 years ago and I finally managed to put into the queue.  After finishing it, I should've kept waiting.  Just kidding.  It wasn't too bad.  But I definitely would've been fine if I have never turned the first page.

Kate Carmichael was going to lose her home if she didn't find the will that promise she had a right to it.  After looking behind a painting, Kate accidentally broke a 200-year old spell.  She released half-fae, Robin Goodfellow, from being trapped in the painting.  Unfortunately, Robin wasn't totally free.  He was now bound to Kate and he must seek out Titania, queen of the fairies, to remove her spell.  But as they work together, Robin and Kate must fight their attraction knowing they had no future together.

What really turned me off was the first 100 pages or so.  The plot was set aside for the fact that they constantly lusted after each other and then, either Kate or Robin would pull back saying that they should remain friends.  And rinse and repeat.  It got really old and I even wished they would just get on with it.  Now that half the book had dragged by, the action and plot finally took off.  There was nice balance of action and romance and drama that kept you glued to the finale.  So, if you can manage to hold on, the ending was worth it.  Self-sacrificial and handsome, Robin Goodfellow was an awesome hero.  He really, honestly cared for the heroine, despite her defeatist attitude.  Kate Carmichael was plain annoying.  It was general attitude about herself just wanted to make you slap her.  Whenever Robin rebuffed her, she went back to her "He must think I'm not attractive" mood.  I really don't know what Robin saw besides the obvious physical attraction.

Would I recommend this book?  Depends.  If you like paranormal, contemporary romance, it wasn't too bad.  Should you buy it right this minute?  No.  If you need a filler book, find it for really cheap.  There is passion.  Nice drama scenes.  Great hero.  So-so heroine.  Despite it, it wasn't really worth the time and money.

On a side note.  There is a sequel to the novel.  The book is about their children.  It's call 'Impractical Magic'.  Just in case anyone is interested.  ^_^
