Sophie Morgan needed to get her life on track. And according to her life plan, first thing she needed was a boyfriend to attend with her to friend's wedding. After a fail attempt at speed dating, Dan Halliday, bar owner, offered to be her date, in exchanged for working for him at his bar. But when their plans fall to the wayside due to their passions, was there a happy ending when Sophie still carried a secret that could break them up?
This story had great potential. I haven't read any stories that were based on speed dating. And after finishing this book, unfortunately, I still haven't. But as a book part of the Harlequin Romance line, I was slightly disappointed by its lack of emotional depth. The first few chapters were a great start: witty, real, down-to earth. Then for the rest of the book, the main characters were lusting after each other and jumping into bed together whenever they could. What happened to the plot? It felt like the author couldn't think of any other plot ideas and that their sexual attraction was enough to create a love epiphany. Didn't work for me. Of course, they did talk a little so they at least knew each other's backgrounds, but it was a little sterile. And I am still not sure if they even mature emotionally as a couple. I have to admire the heroine. After all the blows that life threw at her, she picked herself right up. The hero was a jerk. Every decision he made towards the heroine was for his gratification in a disguise that he was helping her by making her spontaneous. And when it really counted, he let her down. And when he finally comes crawling back, the groveling scene sucked. I would've made him suffer more. Ahem. But that's just me. Technically, a clean romance. Mostly behind the bedroom door scenes.
This book is not for everyone. You might like it, depending on your taste of romances. If you are looking for a meaningful, gentle romance, please look else where. If you like passion with a minimal of plot, this book is for you. All in all, great possibilities but for me, a total let down. This is a miss.
