Aimee Mikkelson was on Mackinac Island to find a long lost family treasure that was hidden in the Grand Hotel. But how was she going to get in and search for it? By-the-book Dillon Thurough was suspicious of Aimee's reason for being at the hotel and when she finally told him the truth, he was skeptical. But her carefree nature and beauty drew him to her. As they worked together, Dillon did not plan to fall in love, but maybe Aimee was a good reason to alter his plans.
After reading the last page, I could only sigh at how good it was. 'The Grand Hotel' had a little bit of everything: mystery, romance, drama and humor. The writing just flowed from chapter to chapter. Despite the back summary, the search for the treasure was not the main point of the plot. The story was more focused on the differences Aimee made in Dillon and the rest of the cast's personal lives. And the characters were the main reason I found this book sooo charming. Aimee was an absolute darling. I thought her underhandedness to find the treasure at the beginning of the book kind of off-putting. But just a few pages in, I immediately began to admire our heroine's spunkiness and inventiveness in every situation she found herself. There was never any malice behind any of her actions. She was open and upfront. I admire her intelligence and wished I was more like her. She brought sunshine and the variness of emotions to the story. Dillon was more of the follow-the-plan kind of guy and was the perfect foil for Aimee. I loved the way his interactions with her brought him to realize that love was not a wrench in his well ordered life. Their romance was sweet and progressed in a believable way despite the short time period.
If you are in search for a fun, clean romance with a quirky heroine, this is definitely it. The only reason I gave this book a 4 stars was because I wouldn't read it again. However, it was definitely worth the one time read. So, if you find this at your local library sale (like I did), get it.
And from I can see, this is third in a series. I have not read them. After reading this one, I might make an effort to search these out on my next library trek.
